Practicing for Spring

The band has new music and we’re practicing for the Grey County Kiwanis Music Festival, April in Owen Sound. We’re entering the Community Band class and are required to play a selection from the prescribed list, and another contrasting piece.

Our piece from the prescribed list is a contemporary piece, “Encanto” by Robert W. Smith. We’ve only played it a couple of times, but we really like it. Those nice big harmonic chords show off our great brass players.

Our second piece is much older; The Royal Airforce March Past composed in 1918 by Henry Walford Davies. Wikipedia says this march can be played fast or slow. We’ve not yet decided what tempo we’ll be taking it.

Christmas Concert

The band presented our annual Christmas concert Sunday December 5. This year our guests were the Kincardine United Church choir, directed by David Hamilton. Liz Dadson, of the Kincardine Times, took this great photo of our conductor, Mary Kloosterboer.

Gathering of the Bands

The Kincardine Community Band opened the Gathering of the Bands event, organized by the Kincardine Scottish Band. Victoria Park was filled with people for our concert at noon on Saturday August 28. The Kincardine Times caught a picture of Dave Jewitt playing in the trumpet section.
